Happy new year everybody!! This is my first blog of the year and I'm hoping to keep up with my blogging a little bit better than I have in the past, so bare with me.
As the holiday season is starting to wind down my business is starting to go from overdrive to trickling. Even though I've have gained some new clients over the past month they all seem to wonder the same thing about my business and so I thought it write up a little bit about how I run my business and some other little interesting fact that people often wonder about.
So to begin... I have given out many business cards and brochures to some of my local shops. Most of these shops include vet offices and pet stores. From these places I have received many new clients. So people hear from me one way or another and they get in touch with me. The first thing we need to do is set up a meet and greet!
I don't charge for a meet and greet, it is like a consultation to make sure that everyone gets along with each other and we all feel comfortable! At these meetings I ask that my clients fill out a questionnaire and read over and sign my contract. As you can guess the contract is to make sure everyone in the agreement is covered and safe if something unexpected arises. The questionnaire is more for me. It asked the most basic questions such as names, ages, feeding, and allergies, etc about your fur babies. For this I am able to come up with more in-dept questions if needed! Here we also talk about dates/times, and services that are needed!
*Behind the Scenes*
Once I get home after our meet and greet I do a little organizing. If you have a type of breed that I have not worked with recently I do a little research that way things are fresh in my mind for your time of service! Also each and everyone of my clients gets their own fold that hold everything. It contains your completed questionnaire, contract and any and every note that you may leave me. If you contact me through my website than I also print out our submission as well! From there I create a fold just for you in my email, which is where I file all our email conversations so I can look back on them if needed!
I like to stay in touch with you right up until the day of your service. There are several things I think about before I do a service for someone. If I am doing just a VISIT for you, I will need to know the time frame that you are out of the house (if you didn't give me a specific time) so I can figure out when would be the best time to come and let your fur baby out. If it is a DAY visit I try to stay around their normal feeding schedule so that their lives stay as normal as possible! Now, if I am doing an OVERNIGHT there are several things I think about! Doing an overnight takes a lot of planning, and if I am doing a long term overnight there is even more to think and plan out. Because I own my own zoo, the first thing I think about is them. Will someone be around for there needs, and if not am I close enough so I can make it to the house if needed?? Then it comes to thinking about my client. What is the temperament of their pets. Do I need to be there all day or will I be okay if I have an emergency call and need to go to another house ( not common but has happened). Does the pet take medication that they need at a certain time of day, and can I be there during that time (I do work a "normal" job during the day)?? Does their pet suffer from anxiety where if I go to the store I need to worry about them chewing the furniture?? Doing an overnight job for someone is the one thing that GIVES ME ANXIETY!!
