So I have been on the road with my boyfriend for the past week (he's a truck driver) and I have seen something that gives me hope for the human race and the animal world!
Some truckers companies allow the drivers to bring their wives, girlfriends, and even sometimes their children with them on the road so they have some companionship! Now other companies realize that not all drivers have a significant other or children to bring with them so they allow their drivers to have a small dog on the road with them.
Now they are not just truck drivers, they are truck drivers that LOVE their dogs! All the dogs I saw were very well cared for and received the highest treatment imaginable. A guy we parked next to one night left his truck running to ensure his dog wouldn't get too hot or too cold.
Now when you walk into a truck stop/service plaza you see everything you would expect to see! Things to eat, drink, and even some personal hygiene items. Then there is a section all for the dogs! They have everything that is needed. From treats, collars, leashes, and toys! That is how you know the truckers are serious about their furry friends!
It almost brings me to tears knowing that someone who basically lives in a truck can care for his dog more than someone with a roof over their head everyday? What is humanity coming too?
I would have liked to have gotten a picture of one of the drivers and his companion but unfortunately I didn't think about it until the tail end of my journey!!
Now with all his being said I did have one question. What happens if one of them needs medical attention? Now I know some companies send their drivers out Monday through Friday so if need be they could go on a Saturday, but what about the others? Yes, there are emergency clinic where one could go if needed, but you have to remember these men drive big rigs. How would they get their trucks in a small parking lot of an emergency animal clinic?? So I came up with a solution. I had only heard about one in my life but I know they have to be out there... A mobile veterinarian clinic!
Normally these services are used for older animals or those humans who can't get their pets to the clinic themselves. Now the one I had heard about was equipped with everything, and they could even do most tests right there in the van!
Now I'm thinking this is something I need to get into! I love traveling and animals, this would be perfect for me! And on top of everything it would be helping those who honest and truly love their four legged friends!!
