Like I had mentions in my last blog about Pickle, bringing him home was the easy part... Everything after that is what is hard.
Pickle came home with VERY strict instructions on what he could and couldn't do. While what he couldn't do greatly outweighed what he could do we were determined to make sure he got better.
He was suppose to be on kennel rest for 6-8 weeks. Well anyone who has met Pickle would know that once he was feeling better that was going to be a challenge, and it sure has been. When he first got home he had 7 different types of pills that he got 2-3 daily. Well the first challenge was finding something to put the pills in that he would eat and wasn't bad for him. I started out with hot dogs but he quickly figured out why he was getting them daily and started spitting out the pills but eating the hot dog... So for a little bit I went to forcing him to eat them, which for me wasn't something I wanted to do, and quickly found another way. I tried several different soft/wet dog foods until I found one that he would eat without putting up a fit.
The next challenge was to keep my active little dog from going stir crazy! Once the pills has been in his system for a couple days we wanted nothing but to go back to the way life used to be. When he could walk around when he wanted, play with our kitten Thor, run around outside, and he doesn't realize that he is injured and can't do those things anymore right now! We did have a few mishaps where he did get away from us and over did it a little bit but he went straight back in the kennel!
It has been rough having Pickle on kennel rest for so long. I am used to bringing him with me when I go run errands, or going for walks with him, or throwing the ball for him. I just want to fast forward everything and have him better already... One can wish...
